A piezo-resistive accelerometer uses a piezo-resistive substrate in place of the piezo-electric crystal and the force exerted by the seismic mass changes the resistance of the etched bridge network and a Whetstone-bridge network detects this. Piezo-resistive accelerometers have the advantage over piezo-electric accelerometers because they can measure acceleration down to zero Hz.
