Surface devices are often refreshed twice per year, and now we're learning what the next round might offer.

It appears Microsoft will introduce new Surface Book and Surface Go models with both due out this spring, according to Petri's Brad Sams. Current versions of these Surface devices are underpowered; however, the report reveals exactly how Microsofts aims to refresh them with modern specifications. Still, the Surface Book 3 and the Surface Go 2 might look a lot like their predecessors. Microsoft is reportedly focused on internal upgrades much more than cosmetic tweaks.

Between all of its lines, Microsoft's Surface Book needs a replacement the most. The Surface Book 2 debuted back in October 2017, and it looks exactly identical to the original model that kicked off this line in October 2015. Expect the Surface Book 3 to look largely the same but maybe with slimmer bezels around the 13.5-inch and 15-displays of this laptop.

Inside, the Surface Book 3 will reportedly sport Intel's 10th generation processors. But the interesting part is that Sams claims Microsoft will let customers configure their laptops with up to an NVIDIA GTX 16XX series GPUs rather than anything from the RTX 20XX series. There will also be an option for the 15-inch Surface Book 3 to run a Quadro series graphics card. Again, the Surface Book line will be built for power users and creators who perform demanding tasks. Everyone else can consider the Surface Laptop 3 or the Surface Pro 7 to meet their standard needs.

The Surface Book 3 could also feature as much as 32GB of RAM and up to 1TB of solid-state drive storage. It should start at $1,400 for the 13.5-inch model, and that price will increase as you choose upgraded components.

As for the Surface Go's successor, Petri reports that Microsoft wants its smallest computer to remain affordable. It'll retain an Intel Pentium Gold chip, but Sams suggests there's going to be another configuration that features a Core M. Sams also disputes earlier rumors that Microsoft intends to insert an ARM-based chip such as Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7c inside the Surface Go 2. If you're looking for a Surface device with an ARM-based chip, your only option continues to be the Surface Pro X.

Sams indicates the Surface Go 2 should start at $399. Of course, the Type Cover keyboard and the Surface Pen will be sold separately. That's not exactly a surprise as Microsoft never sells its hybrid Surface devices with all accessories included.

The Surface Earbuds will also earn some attention. Microsoft announced the product last fall, and they're set to arrive this spring. A release date should get /////confirm/i/i/i/i/ied.

Microsoft stays quiet on future plans. Aside from the Surface Neo and the Surface Duo, the Redmond-based company's product roadmap remains a mystery. Of course, the schedule could also change. Perhaps we'll see everything join together in a full unveiling at the end of 2020, but it does feel likely that Microsoft's new Surface Book and Surface Go models will go official soon as they're existing iterations are long in the tooth. Given its past, Microsoft should announce the revised hardware in May or June.
